چکیده
Introduction Chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) is a frequent urological diagnosis that affects men’s quality of life. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) recent treatment option for patients with CPPS. We evaluated ESWT’s short and long – term efficacy in managing CPPS.Methods This prospective self-controlled study included 75 diagnosed CPPS at our tertiary clinic between January 2017-June 2019. Patients were referred ESWT received four sessions one week apart. The National Institute Health Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH CPSI) questionnaire was used to assess patients’ symptom severity before starting 0, 12 26 weeks after completing ESWT. Demographics, clinical data complications also recorded. Results Patients’ mean age 37.9 ± 8.6 years, duration symptoms 5 4.5 years. Compared pre-treatment scores, all exhibited improvements across NIH CPSI domains directly (week 0 post-treatment), difference improvement 9.26 5.7, 5.2 3.4, 1.19 2.18 2.88 2.46 points the total, pain, urinary symptoms, quality-of-life scores respectively. At ESWT, 80.9% reported improvements, 8.07 7.56, 4.55 4.6, 0.76 2.48, 2.85 2.78 Again, none developed any treatment-related complications. 82.4% 8.29 7.7%, 4.92 4.69, 0.75 2.96, 2.5 3.0 None complications. Conclusions safe effective modality CPPS, short-term symptom, scores; long-term scores.

متن کاملEfficacy of Low-Intensity Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy on Men With Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome Refractory to 3-As Therapy
Managing patients with chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) refractory to the traditional 3-As therapy (antibiotics, alpha-blockers, and anti-inflammatories) is a challenging task. Low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy (LI-ESWT) was recently reported to be able to improve pain, urinary symptoms, and even sexual function by inducing neovascularization and anti-inflammation, reducing mus...

The study included 34 patients who had had CPPS for 3 months, who were investigated in two subsequent studies. ESWT was administered using a perineal approach with two different standard ESWT devices with and without an ultrasonographic positioning system. The follow-up was at 1, 4 and 12 weeks after ESWT, to evaluate the effects on pain, quality of life and voiding. Imaging studies and chang...
